The Chronicles of Bone Season 1, Chapter 3

What happened in Chapter 3

Kavan the Kid has one word for this episode. Tragic. The Nightmare Below picks up right where Chapter 2 left off. The Collector returns to his burned-down cabin, ready for revenge after Desmond Mordane and the Blind Witch captured his wife. From there, the story splits across two more threads: the Middle Realm, where Robin Hood continues to train Jackal; and Dead Man’s Bay, where Captain Hook meets an unexpected guest — the infamous Captain Nemo. A lot happens in a short amount of time. It’s Kavan’s favorite episode yet. You’ll see why.

How Kavan built this one

The most demanding scene was Hook and Anne’s conversation on a moving ship — cutting between over-the-shoulder angles while maintaining the ship’s direction and every set detail across each cut. Every cut is a test — if the ship shifts direction, if a prop moves, if the light changes, the illusion breaks. That’s where you direct with intention.

Kavan split the workload between two tools: Nano Banana 2 for all locations and character reference sheets, and Seedance 2.0 for all video generation. For group shots, Kavan used a blocking reference prompt — a reference image to set character placement and spatial logic, with Seedance prompted to treat it purely as a placement guide. It kept scenes intact across cuts, even with a full cast in frame.

Music was another frontier in this episode. Getting the score to hit specific beats at exactly the right moments took serious prompt engineering. Kavan developed a new process for timing and generation, treating music prompts the way a director would brief a composer. His takeaway: “Treat your music prompts like a director’s cue sheet.”

The Nightmare Below is Kavan’s most ambitious episode yet. With more characters, more threads, and more ground covered. Kavan keeps raising his own bar, one frame at a time, with Magnific.
